Improvising at fast tempos presents a challenge—even more so when navigating rapidly changing chords. I chose this progression for its clear use of secondary dominants and how effectively it represents commonly found chord changes. The melodic language is rooted in bebop, with an emphasis on honoring each chord’s specific tensions and resolutions. As with all of my writing, I strive for rhythmic balance and melodic lines that incorporate imitation and sequence.
