Subdivision Exercise (Sixteenth Notes )

“Subdivision” in rhythm refers to dividing the beat. Eighth notes give a subdivision of two dividing the beat in half. Sixteenth notes divide the beat by four. This exercise is designed to develop your ability to transition smoothly between these subdivisions—quarter notes to eighths to sixteenths and back—giving you a clear rhythmic comparison. If you can maintain a steady internal pulse while cycling through these subdivisions, you’re beginning to build a solid foundation in dividing the beat.

The remaining examples reinforce commonly used sixteenth-note patterns through repetition.
