Playing in odd meter can seem daunting at first. With a little perspective however it will feel more manageable. Here we will discuss 5/4 and 7/4 only but the same principle applies to 9, 11, 13 etc.
The basic concept is that any given odd meter almost will always break down into smaller divisions depending on the nature of the melody, part or rhythm in general.
This is the most common way to break down 5/4 and 7/4 although in unique situations it may divide out differently.
