G7 C7 Scale Position

The exercises on these pages are based on the need to improvise over a G7–C7 chord progression—a sequence that is fundamental to blues and widely used across many musical styles. The goal is to develop the ability to transition smoothly between these chords within each position on the fingerboard. Because of the way scales are distributed across the fretboard, this approach naturally divides into five positions. Each position stacks the G and C Mixolydian modes, giving players a clear framework for navigating the changes while staying anchored in a single area of the neck.
