I wrote Dive Bar in April of 2017, shortly after joining the band RedShift. The song was written for the Blue Beet Café in Newport Beach, CA, where we played monthly. The melody is two part harmony between the guitar and sax and built on top of a funk bass line. A contrasting bridge with moving chord changes allows the melody to open up, while the final two bars tighten and lead back to the final A section. RedShift performed and recorded the song, which was included on our CD Spectral Expansion.
