Chord Melody Forms

This is the method I learned when I was first introduced to chord melody playing. I found it to be a good springboard to playing solo guitar jazz standards. The basic principle is to identify the melody as it relates to the chord, root, 3rd, 5th or 7th and choose a string, 1st or 2nd and align the voicing. This structured approach will lead to limitations but before that happens you should gain a deeper understanding of how chords and melody relate and the limitations of this chart will not be an issue.
