C Major Picking Study

This exercise is suitable for guitarists of all levels—from beginner to advanced. While beginners will benefit from focusing on accuracy and coordination, advanced players can increase the tempo to further challenge their control and endurance. The primary objective is to develop evenness and precision in right-hand alternate picking while internalizing scale-based patterns.

The first section begins with a straightforward ascending C major scale. This is followed by a descending sequence in thirds. Playing each note twice makes the pattern more manageable while reinforcing rhythmic stability.

The second section is a simple four note group. This will help build a foundation for sixteenth-note phrasing.

The third section is a four-note pattern ascending and descending. This type of figure is especially useful for improvisers, as it naturally lends itself to melodic development.

A natural continuation of this exercise is to apply the same patterns to other major and minor scales
