I wrote Black Sand while visiting Maui. At the time, I was drawn to the sound of minor keys and open chord voicings—they felt especially compelling in that setting. The chords fell into place naturally, and once the melody for the “A” section was complete, the bridge revealed itself and came together quickly. RedShift recorded the song in 2018 for our album Spectral Expansion.
