Ascending/Descending Chords

This chord progression offers one possible solution for ascending and descending through chords chromatically within the key of C major. Diatonic chords retain their functional roles, while chromatic chords serve to introduce tension that resolves into the next target chord.

Ascending motion is often supported effectively by diminished chords, especially when leading into minor chords.

Descending motion works well with dominant chords and via tritone substitutions.
