“Almost There” was written for RedShift as a conversational piece, intended to inspire the band to engage in interactive, responsive playing. The “A” section is rooted in the C Lydian mode and concludes with a sequence of moving chords. The B section expands on that harmonic motion, eventually settling into an open-ended C Lydian solo section.
