Waltz For Z

I composed Waltz For Z in February of 1995 for my good friend Steve Zylius. The piece draws inspiration from the cool jazz era of the 1950s, with a particular nod to the style of Dave Brubeck. The chord changes push the boundaries of the key but never lose connection to the tonality. The melody feels relaxed but also pushes the time. Achieving that balance can be a challenge. On The Mile recorded it for the CD Different Lines in 1999.
