I wrote “Spring Rain” in my earliest years as a composer. To the best of my recollection it was in 1984. Initially composed as a solo guitar piece. The melody originally written for cello was recorded with flute. The recording was done at Why Me recording studio in NJ in that same year.
I used an Ovation nylon string guitar in drop D tuning to add bottom. The song is built on two sections. The first is centered on alternating D and E in the bass while the second section moves through G/B, C and Aminor as a bright relief to the first section.
