I wrote this tune during my first visit to Portland in 2023. The city left a strong impression on me, and I aimed to capture its uniqueness in the composition. The language of this tune is rooted in the evolution of jazz in the 1950’s when the American Songbook combined with the jazz language of composers like Bill Evans and Benny Golson. From a playing perspective the chord changes are ideal for improvisation. That forethought was there when I composed the changes.
