Composed on December 28th, 2024, New Road began as a simple four-bar melody based on the G minor pentatonic scale. As I developed the tune, I stated and restated that same melody over different chords, changing the dynamic with each repetition. The eight-bar bridge introduces a completely different idea, offering a perfect contrast.
RedShift performed it many times, and each time reaffirmed a sense that I had tapped into something very special. Sometimes, it just goes that way—the feeling that the tune was always there, waiting—and my role was simply to dig it out and bring it to life.
