I wrote Cat Eye around 1985, while living in Haddon Heights, New Jersey. The tune was influenced by the band Oregon and composer Ralph Towner. The melody is based on the E Phrygian mode superimposed over a D minor chord, a combination that created a very interesting and unique texture. I’ve continued to play the song in the decades since, performing it with various bands over the years.
