Written on May 17th, 2015 this piece is part of a series of compositions written during a visit to Maui. The inspiration stems from music introduced to me by Pat Martino in 1985, during my studies in guitar and composition. That music, impressionistic in nature, embraced space and subtlety. In this composition, harmony is selected not only for its sequence but also for its textural qualities—each chord chosen as much for how it feels as for how it functions. It was regularly performed by RedShift.
