“Sixth Sense” was written in 1992, the year I moved to California. The piece is stylistically rooted in the Hard Bop tradition of the 1960s. The title refers to the D minor 6 chord that defines the harmonic foundation of the composition. I formed the band Road Noise, which recorded and performed the song. Decades later, in the 2020s, RedShift performed it regularly as well.
