The genesis of this song dates back to 1993, just a year after I moved to California. I wrote an 8-bar melody over a bluesy walking bass line. The notes sat in a manuscript book for 27 years unplayed. By accident I came across it in 2019 and was inspired to write a bridge. The initial tune felt very much like 1950s jazz so I set out to write a bridge reminiscent of that era. I reached out to Thelonius Monk for inspiration and the song was completed. RedShift rehearsed is and performed several time.
