“Dis Place” (a play on “displace”) was initially written as a compositional exercise but later became a regularly played tune by RedShift. I began with two opposing chords—Gmaj7 and Ebmaj7—which share some common tones but largely contrast each other. The melody is built from short motifs and repetition, employing rhythmic displacement to create interest. A relaxed Bossa Nova tempo smooths out the displaced phrases, giving the piece a laid-back feeling.
